Dr Deborah Eyles (MAPS. CClin.)

Dr Deborah Eyles is a Clinical Psychologist practising now exclusivley from offices at the Surrey Hills Medical Centre, in the Melbourne suburb of Surrey Hills.

Dr Eyles specialises in working with adults, adolescents and their families. In particular, Deborah offers treatment to those affected by anxiety, depression, adjustment issues, parenting and stress management. Deborah uses a range of theoretical approaches when carrying out clinical assessments and working therapeutically with clients.

In addition to providing therapy, Dr Eyles is also highly experienced in conducting and providing psychological and educational assessments.

Dr Eyles provides a warm and friendly environment where you can feel safe, comfortable and confident with your care. One of Deborah’s strengths lies in establishing strong therapeutic relationships by ensuring all clients are given a safe space for their issues to be explored. Deborah is committed to providing clients with insights and practical tools to help achieve meaningful and lasting change. 

Services are provided to adults, adolescents (aged 11 years and above) and their parents.

Dr Eyles has extensive experience in psychological practice and research in both medical and counselling settings utilising the theoretical modalities of Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Solutions Focussed and Family therapy.

Deborah has a strong foundation in the multidisciplinary nature of working with young people having conducted individual and group interventions in numerous health, education and research settings. Deborah is a specialist in the assessment and treatment of anxiety disorders and behavioural difficulties in adolescents, with particular interests in the manifestation and treatment of school reluctance and associated difficulties. She is passionate about early intervention with young people, with the aim of building self-esteem and resilience and preventing ongoing mental illness. Deborah also enjoys working with parents who are experiencing difficulties and challenges associated with the different developmental stages of adolescence.

Academic

In addition to her private practice work, Deborah worked within the School of Psychology and Psychiatry, Monash University. She was based at the Centre for Developmental Psychiatry and Psychology, a specialist clinical research centre with a mandate to provide research and teaching in the field of developmental psychiatry and psychology with a particular focus on child, adolescent and family mental health. The Centre works in close affiliation with the clinical services provided by the Monash Medical Centre. Deborah has also worked in the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute conducting research on children and families affected by cancer and its treatment.

Research

As a clinician and researcher, Deborah has contributed to projects designed to treat anxiety and depression disorders and school refusal behaviours in adolescents, an fMRI study on women experiencing mental health issues and postnatal parenting difficulties, and the evaluation of a child and parent multilevel prevention and early intervention program developed to reduce the incidence and impact of emotional and behaviour difficulties in young children.
